Australian Open : Carlos Alcaraz’s injury
Australian Open 2023 is all set to start, but fans had bad news coming related to the top-seeded player “Carlos Alcaraz’s injury”. The 19-year-old Spaniard has announced that he has to pull out of the Australian Open 2023 tournament due to his leg injury.
Australian Open : Carlos Alcaraz’s injury
This is going to be the second time in a row that the top seed is not playing in the Australian Open tournament. Last year in 2022, the World No. 1 at that time, Novac Djokovic could not play due to his unvaccinated status.
Carlos informed about his situation over a tweet:
When I was at my best in preseason, I picked up an injury through a chance, unnatural movement in training. This time it's the semimembranosus muscle in my right leg. pic.twitter.com/nJbIlMtGyK

Carlos Alcaraz’s Injury
The teenage tennis player suffered an abdominal muscle tear at the end of the season, causing him to miss the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup Finals. This latest injury, which has occurred at an inconvenient time, will also prevent him from competing in the Australian Open, much to the disappointment of fans who were looking forward to seeing him play.
Carlos went on to say:
"It's time to deal with another blow. When I was at my best in pre-season, I picked up an injury through a chance, unnatural movement in training. I'd worked so hard to get to my best level for Australia but unfortunately, I won't be able to play the Care A2+ Kooyong [warm-up event] or the Australia Open. It's tough, but I have to be optimistic, recover and look forward. See you in 2024 @australianopen."
Nadal is the new Top seed for Australian Open 2023
Following this announcement from Carlos Alcaraz regarding his injury, Rafael Nadal who is also the defending champion will become the new Top seed for the Australian Open 2023. Last year he won Australian Open after beating Daniil Medvedev in a close final. With this win, Nadal had totaled 21 grand slams and shared the top spot with Roger Federer and Novac Djokovic. But this year it will be difficult for Rafa, due to his fitness issues. Last year he suffered an abdominal tear at Wimbledon. Ever since that injury, he appears to be struggling for consistency and fluency. He has already lost 2 matches this very year. The X-factor will be how quickly he is able to regroup himself and find his fluency back.
Novac is disappointed for Carlos Alcaraz’s Injury
Meanwhile, Novac Djokovic has expressed his disappointment over the injury of Carlos Alcaraz and his decision to pull out of the Australian Open 2023. In a press conference, Djokovic empathized with the player and wished him a speedy recovery. He also talked about how Carlos had to take a long break due to one injury, thereby his body slowed down, and that caused another injury to happen.[1]
"It happens that sometimes, even if you have a longer period of time without an official tournament, your body is not used to that kind of conditions and circumstances because as a tennis player, you're constantly on the road, playing competitions. When you are out of that rhythm, the body can react. You can have some injuries and difficulties when you come back to the tour and start pushing more and giving more intensity to the points."
